Methylated Lysine Antibody: PerCP

Methylated lysine is a key post-translational modification that plays a pivotal role in regulating gene expression, chromatin structure, and protein-protein interactions in the nervous system. Lysine residues on histone proteins can undergo mono-, di-, or tri-methylation, influencing transcriptional activation or repression depending on the site and degree of methylation. This epigenetic regulation is essential for neuronal development, synaptic plasticity, and memory formation. In neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s disease, aberrant lysine methylation patterns have been linked to dysregulated gene expression and impaired neuronal function. Enzymes that catalyze lysine methylation (lysine methyltransferases) and demethylation (lysine demethylases) are increasingly recognized as contributors to disease pathogenesis. Altered activity of these enzymes can disrupt chromatin dynamics, leading to neuronal vulnerability and degeneration. Targeting lysine methylation pathways offers a promising therapeutic strategy for modulating gene expression and restoring neuronal homeostasis. As research advances, methylated lysine serves as both a biomarker and a mechanistic link between epigenetic regulation and neurodegenerative progression.
