Determined by its ability to chemoattract human peripheral blood neutrophils using a concentration range of 50-150ng/ml, corresponding to a Specific Activity of 6,667-20,000IU/mg.

IL-8 is a chemotactic factor that attracts neutrophils, basophils, and T-cells, but not monocytes. It is also involved in neutrophil activation. It is released from several cell types in response to an inflammatory stimulus (By similarity) .

Lyophilized IL-8 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution IL-8 should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
