ER Beta/NR3A2 Protein, Human Recombinant
Estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) is a member of the family of estrogen receptors and the superfamily of nuclear receptor transcription factors. The gene product contains an N-terminal DNA binding domain and C-terminal ligand binding domain and is localized to the nucleus, cytoplasm, and mitochondria. ERβ is a potent tumor suppressor and plays a crucial role in many cancer types such as prostate cancer. Several lines of evidence suggest that the inhibitory effect of ERβ is due to blockade of cell cycle progression. ERβ knockdown results in a significant growth of several breast cancer cells. ERβ is also found to have anti proliferative effects in disease progression. ERβ can perform its role in tumor inhibition by regulating mitochondrial function and dynamics.
