Lactitol (monohydrate)
Lactitol monohydrate (D-Lactitol monohydrate) is a sugar analog of lactulose. Lactitol monohydrate acts as a prebiotic, fermented by intestinal flora, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria (such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium), inhibiting pathogenic bacteria, increasing volatile fatty acid production, and reducing ammonia levels. Lactitol monohydrate can be used as an alternative sweetener. Lactitol monohydrate can be also used in research on constipation and hepatic encephalopathy[1][2][3].
