G418
G418, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, is produced by <i>Micromonospora rhodorangea</i>. G418 blocks polypeptide synthesis in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes by inhibiting the elongation step. It is also used to select for genetically engineered cells.
