The ADH5 protein catalyzes the oxidation of long-chain primary alcohols and S- (hydroxymethyl) glutathione. It also oxidizes long-chain omega-hydroxy fatty acids, producing intermediate aldehydes and end products. However, it is ineffective in oxidizing ethanol.
