FASN (Human) ELISA Kit
Fatty acid synthase (FASN) is a 552 kDa multi-enzyme protein that regulates the de novo biosynthesis of long-chain fatty acids. This cytosolic enzyme catalyzes the conversion of acetyl CoA and malonyl CoA to palmitate in the presence of NADPH. Besides fatty acid synthesis, FASN also plays a significant role in embryonic development. High levels of FASN are present in lipogenic tissues such as liver and adipose tissue. FASN is regulated by nutrition and hormones. During fasting/starving conditions, the concentration of FASN is low whereas, the concentration increases under refeeding conditions. Increased expression of FASN has been reported in several cancers such as breast, colon, ovary, and thyroid. Hence, FASN is considered a promising diagnostic and prognostic marker for cancer. BioVision’s FASN (Human) ELISA kit quantitatively measures FASN in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. HRP-Streptavidin is added to the plate, and post-incubation any unattached conjugates are washed off by Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected using TMB-substrate. Finally, an acidic stop solution terminates the enzymatic reaction. The color developed is directly proportional to the amount of FASN in the sample or standard.
