FGF-23 protein is a key regulator of phosphate homeostasis and inhibits renal tubular phosphate transport by reducing SLC34A1 levels. It also modulates vitamin D metabolism, negatively regulates osteoblast differentiation and matrix mineralization, and reduces parathyroid hormone secretion from the parathyroid glands.
