Lithium citrate is a lithium supplement that reduces excess brain N-acetylaspartate (NAA) in Canavan disease. Canavan disease is an autosomal recessive leukodystrophy caused by mutations in the aspartate acylase (ASPA) gene, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of N-acetylaspartate (NAA) to acetate and aspartate[1].
