The MGAT2 protein plays an important role in protein N-glycosylation, catalyzing the transfer of GlcNAc to the free terminal mannose in nascent N-linked glycan chains. This forms a second branch of the complex glycan and is critical for glycoprotein maturation and functional diversity.
