The NETO1 protein complexly maintains neuronal circuits as an auxiliary subunit of NMDARs, which is critical for the abundance of GRIN2A-containing NMDARs in the postsynaptic density. It regulates long-term NMDA receptor-dependent synaptic plasticity and cognition, particularly in spatial learning and memory.
