Antibacterial agent 228 (Compound 8) inhibits the mycobacterial ribosome (IC50 for Mycobacterium smegmatis is 2.31 μM) and exhibits antibacterial activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv (MIC=2 and 0.25 μg/mL for wildtype and Δ1258c mutant), M. abscessus ATCC 19977 (MIC=8 and 8 μg/mL for wildtype and Δ2780c mutant) and M. smegmatis (MIC=8 μg/mL) [1].
