SRY (sex determining region Y) -Box 2 or SOX-2, is a transcription factor that regulates the pluripotency of undifferentiated embryonic stem cells, and regulates gene expression in the stomach. It is a valuable tool to study stage I lung adenocarcinomas as it has been indicated to be a predictor of poor prognosis. It may be used to detect squamous cell carcinomas of the lung and gastrointestinal tract, and embryonal carcinoma.
