The Galectin-2 (LGALS2) protein binds with affinity to β-galactopyranoside and forms homodimers, indicating a basic functional organization. Although the physiological role is unclear, β-galactoside binding of LGALS2 suggests a possible involvement in recognition of specific carbohydrates.
