Complement C3 (Human) ELISA Kit
Complement C3 is a 187 kDa protein that belongs to the a2-macroglobulin (a2M) family of proteins. It plays an important role in the activation of the complement system. The presence of foreign microorganisms triggers the proteolytic cleavage of C3 by convertases to yield an anaphylatoxin C3a and an opsonizing agent C3b. Circulating levels of C3 in the blood are used as indicators to measure therapeutic efficacy in patients suffering from autoimmune diseases. Patients having homozygous deficiency of C3 suffer from severe bacterial infections. Reduced levels of C3 are associated with diseases such as acute glomerulonephritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, septic shock, and liver disease. BioVision’s Complement C3 (Human) ELISA kit quantitatively measures C3 in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. The kit is based on the Sandwich ELISA principle. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. The HRP-Streptavidin is added and any unattached conjugates are washed off by Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected by the addition of TMB-substrate. Finally, the reaction is terminated with an acidic stop solution. The color developed is directly proportional to the concentration of C3 in the sample or standard.
