SUV4-20H1 Chemiluminescent Assay Kit

SUV4-20H1, also known as KMT5B (histone-lysine N-methyltransferase 5B), is a di- and tri-methyltransferase of H4K20. H4K20me2 is one of the most frequent histone modifications, and results from the sequential methylation by KMT5A, followed by SUV4-20H1. Tri-methylation can also occur by SUV4-20H1 and KMT5C. H4K20me3 is found in silenced heterochromatin, found near the centromeres and telomeres where it supports the segregation and integrity of the genome. SUV4-20H1 is structurally similar to SUV4-20H2, and they are mostly redundant. SUV4-20H1 plays a role in development, and abnormalities in this protein can result in genome sensitivity to stress signals and defective DDR (DNA damage repair) . It is thus implicated in cancer, metabolic and neurodevelopmental disorders and aging. SUV4-20H1 is found at higher levels in the prefrontal cortex, and has been linked to autism, possibly by inducing synaptic dysfunction due to alterations in DNA repair and gene regulation. A deeper understanding of the role of this protein and how to manipulate its roles in health and disease may open new therapeutic opportunities in SUV4-20H1 related disorders.
