Rabbit polyclonal to MMP25.Matrix metalloproteinase-25 belongs to the peptidase M10A family. It is a member of the membranetypeMMP (MT-MMP) subfamily, attached to the plasma membrane via a glycosylphosphatidyl inositolanchor. In response to bacterial infection or inflammation, MMP25 is thought to inactivate alpha-1proteinase inhibitor, a major tissue protectant against proteolytic enzymes released by activatedneutrophils, facilitating the transendothelial migration of neutrophils to inflammatory sites. The gene has previouslybeen referred to as MMP20 but has been renamed MMP25. MMP25 is expressed in colon carcinoma, astrocytoma and glioblastomas.
