Sulfamethoxazole-NO (SMX-NO) is the major immunogen in sulfonamide allergy, producing modest ascorbic acid depletion and hemoglobin adduct formation. Sulfamethoxazole-NO haptens tissue proteins and is immunogenic in rodents[1].
