It participates in erythroid iron homeostasis by reducingFe (3+) to Fe (2+) and may play a role in copper homeostasis reducing Cu (2+) to Cu (1+) . It may alsoplay a role downstream of p53 to interface apoptosis and cell cycle. STEAP3 is indirectly involved inexosome secretion by facilitating the secretion of proteins such as TCTP.
