The EGFR vIII protein is a transmembrane glycoprotein in the protein kinase superfamily that acts as a receptor for epidermal growth factor. It acts on the cell surface, binds to epidermal growth factor, triggers receptor dimerization and tyrosine autophosphorylation, and promotes cell proliferation.
