Specificity
OX-22 binds specifically to the high molecular weight form of the leucocyte common antigen, CD45RC. OX-22 and OX-31 compete for binding but do not compete with OX-32. The antigen is expresssed on the surface of B cells, around half of bone marrow cells, all CD8+ve T cells, and is able to differentiate between CD4+CD45RChigh (Th1-like) and CD4+CD45RClow (Th2-like) cell types. CD45 extracellular domain is able to interact with a number of different proteins including CD4, TCR, CD2, Thy-1 and CD26. CD45 is important for signalling throguh the T cell receptor and in the selection of T and B lymphocytes.
