Anti-FOLR1 [Farletuzumab (MORAb-003; M3)]

This antibody binds human folate receptor alpha (FOLR1). FOLR1 binds folate and reduced folic acid derivatives and mediates delivery of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and folate analogs into the interior of cells by receptor mediated endocytosis. It is required for normal embryonic development and normal cell proliferation. The human folate receptor-alpha (FOLR1) is overexpressed in ovarian cancer but largely absent in normal tissue. It is hypothesized that the presence of elevated levels of FRalpha can be correlated with the propagation rate and phenotype of the tumors.
