Antiserum to Human Alpha-1-Antitrypsin made in goat
Alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) is an acute-phase plasma protein typically found at concentrations of 95-350 mg per 100 ml in human plasma. It functions primarily as a protease inhibitor. A deficiency of AAT is clinically associated with two major diseases: pulmonary emphysema and juvenile (early-onset) hepatic cirrhosis. AAT levels are elevated in various conditions, including inflammation, malignancies, liver disease, pregnancy, post-surgical trauma, and during the use of oral contraceptives. Simultaneous quantitative determination of AAT and ceruloplasmin can assist in the differential diagnosis of liver afflictions. Activity: When tested with active-site titrated porcine pancreatic trypsin using Na-Benzoyl-L-Arginine-para-Nitroanilide Hydrochloride (L-BAPNA) as the substrate, AAT shows 75-100% inhibitory activity.
