Phenylbutyrate Na
HDAC inhibitor
Product Specifications
Background
Sodium phenylbutyrate is metabolized in the human body by beta-oxidation to phenylacetate, which is then conjugated with glutamine to phenylacetylglutamine, which is eliminated with urine (1). It inhibits cell proliferation, invasion and migration and induces apoptosis in glioma cells. It also inhibits protein isoprenylation, depletes plasma glutamine, increases production of fetal hemoglobin through transcriptional activation of gamma-globin gene (2). It has been shown to reduce tau pathology in an Alzheimer's Disease model (3).
