Background

4-Hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) BSA Conjugate is a widely used biomarker for lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress in the brain. 4-HNE is derived from omega-6 fatty acid oxidation and forms stable adducts with nucleophilic amino acids, disrupting protein function and cellular signaling. In neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS, 4-HNE-modified proteins accumulate in affected brain regions, contributing to synaptic dysfunction, mitochondrial damage, and chronic inflammation. 4-HNE also activates pro-apoptotic pathways and impairs proteasomal degradation, exacerbating neuronal loss. The BSA conjugate enables precise quantification of 4-HNE adducts in tissue and serum samples, facilitating biomarker discovery and therapeutic evaluation in oxidative stress-driven neurodegeneration.
