Choline Acetyltransferase Antibody: ATTO 488

Rabbit Anti-Human Choline Acetyltransferase Polyclonal

Product Specifications

Background

Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) catalyzes the synthesis of acetylcholine (ACh), a neurotransmitter essential for motor control, memory, and autonomic function. ChAT is selectively expressed in cholinergic neurons, making it a reliable marker for cholinergic system integrity. Loss of ChAT activity is a hallmark of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Down syndrome. Reduced ChAT expression correlates with cognitive decline and impaired synaptic transmission in affected brain regions. As a neuron-specific enzyme with a direct role in neurotransmitter synthesis, ChAT is both a diagnostic marker and a therapeutic target in disorders characterized by cholinergic dysfunction.
