ENaC alpha Antibody: Biotin

The epithelial sodium channel alpha subunit (ENaCα) is a key component of the heterotrimeric ENaC complex, which regulates sodium ion transport across epithelial membranes. While traditionally studied in renal, pulmonary, and gastrointestinal systems, emerging evidence highlights ENaCα’s relevance in the central nervous system and neurodegenerative disease. ENaCα modulates ionic homeostasis and fluid balance in neural tissues, contributing to neuroprotection under stress conditions. In models of ocular hypertension, upregulation of ENaCα in retinal tissues suggests a compensatory mechanism to counteract elevated intraocular pressure, a known risk factor for glaucoma. Additionally, ENaCα expression is dynamically regulated during keratinocyte differentiation, indicating its broader role in cellular stress responses and tissue remodeling. These findings point to ENaCα as a potential modulator of neuroinflammation and glial activation—processes central to neurodegenerative pathologies such as Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. As interest grows in ion channel dysfunction in neurodegeneration, ENaCα is gaining attention as a novel target for therapeutic intervention. Its role in maintaining ionic equilibrium and responding to mechanical and osmotic stress positions it at the intersection of neuroscience, neuroprotection, and precision medicine.

Produced against a synthetic peptide mapping to the N-terminal of the alpha subunit (amino acids 46-68) of rat Alpha ENaC (antibody designation 3560-2) .

1 µg/ml of SPC-403 was sufficient for detection of alpha-ENaC in 35 µg of rat kidney tissue lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
