MBP (Human) ELISA Kit
Myelin basic protein (MBP) is a key structural protein of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells in the central nervous system. The 169 amino acid peptide makes up to 30% of the myelin sheath. MBP interacts with multiple cytoskeletal proteins such as actin, tubulin, and calmodulin and regulates their bundling and polymerization. MBP can also bind to signaling molecules that are important for differentiation and myelination. It plays an important role in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. MBP undergoes deimination, a type of post-translational modification wherein arginine residues are converted to citrulline. Increased deimination of MBP positively correlates with Multiple sclerosis. BioVision’s MBP (Human) ELISA kit is based on the Sandwich principle to quantitatively measure the concentration of MBP in human serum, plasma, and other biological fluids. Test samples, Standards, and Biotinylated Detection antibody are added to the wells pre-coated with capture antibody and then washed with Wash Buffer. The HRP-Streptavidin is added and any unattached conjugates are washed off by Wash Buffer. The HRP enzymatic reaction is detected by the addition of TMB-substrate. Finally, the reaction is terminated with an acidic stop solution. The color developed is directly proportional to the concentration of MBP in the sample or standard.
