Parvalbumin Antibody, Clone C12

Mouse Anti-Rat Parvalbumin Monoclonal IgG2a

Product Specifications

Background

Parvalbumin is a calcium-binding protein predominantly expressed in fast-spiking GABAergic interneurons. It plays a crucial role in buffering intracellular calcium and regulating neuronal excitability and synaptic timing. Alterations in parvalbumin-expressing interneurons have been implicated in a range of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorders, and age-related cognitive decline. Loss of parvalbumin function disrupts inhibitory signaling, leading to network hyperexcitability and impaired cognitive processing. As a marker of interneuron health and circuit integrity, parvalbumin is a valuable target for studying neural dysfunction and developing interventions aimed at restoring excitatory-inhibitory balance in the brain.
