MGluR5 (metabotropic glutamate receptor 5) is a subtype of glutamate receptor that regulates synaptic transmission and plasticity via G-protein-coupled signaling. Aberrant mGluR5 activity has been linked to excitotoxicity, calcium dysregulation, and neuroinflammation, contributing to the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) . mGluR5 also interacts with amyloid precursor protein and tau, influencing their aggregation and toxicity.
