The GABA A receptor alpha 1 subunit (GABRA1) is a critical component of the GABA A receptor complex, a family of fast-acting ligand-gated ion channels that mediate the majority of rapid inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. These receptors are pentameric structures composed of various subunits, with the alpha 1 subunit being the most abundantly expressed in the adult brain. GABRA1 plays a central role in maintaining synaptic inhibition, regulating neuronal excitability, and shaping network oscillations essential for cognitive and behavioral functions. Emerging evidence links GABRA1 dysfunction to the pathophysiology of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease. 1 µg/ml of SMC-346 was sufficient for detection of alpha1 GABA receptor in 10 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
