The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s, ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, and ubiquitin-protein ligases, or E3s. UBE2I encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.The protein has a predicted sequence of 158 amino acids and can support the growth of yeast ubc9 temperature-sensitive mutants at non-permissive temperatures, indicating that their gene is a functional homolog of yeast ubc9.

Mouse SUMO-conjugating enzyme UBC9 (UBE2I) ELISA Kit has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of Mouse UBE2I. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between Mouse UBE2I and analogues was observed.

This Mouse SUMO-conjugating enzyme UBC9 (UBE2I) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate UBE2I in samples. An antibody specific for UBE2I has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyUBE2I present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for UBE2I is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of UBE2I bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
