BACH2 is a multifunctional transcriptional regulator that acts as both a repressor and an activator and recognizes Maf recognition elements (MAREs) to coordinate the transcriptional regulation of MAFKs. During oxidative stress, BACH2 induces apoptosis by inhibiting HMOX1.
