Cilastatin sodium (MK0791 sodium) is a reversible, competitive inhibitor of renal dehydropeptidase I (also known as membrane dipeptidase, MDP), with an IC50 of 0.1 μM. It is primarily used in combination with imipenem to enhance the antibiotic's effectiveness against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections by preventing its degradation in the kidneys.
