Applications Notes
Human adenoviruses are medium-sized, double-stranded DNA viruses with a non-enveloped icosahedral structure. More than 50 types are known to infect humans, most often causing respiratory tract disease ranging from mild cold-like illness to more severe presentations such as pneumonia, croup, or bronchitis. Certain types can also lead to gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis, cystitis, and, in rare cases, neurological complications. Adenoviruses are hardy in the environment, persisting on surfaces and in water sources, and while infections are often self-limiting, immunocompromised individuals are at particular risk for severe or persistent disease. The TRUPCR® Human Adenovirus Detection Kit is a CE-IVD real-time PCR assay intended for the qualitative detection of Human Adenovirus DNA in nucleic acids extracted from respiratory specimens. The assay uses specific primers and a dual-labelled probe system, with an internal control included in each reaction to ensure sample quality and monitor PCR inhibition.
