Background

Neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM1), also known as CD56, is a glycoprotein first characterized for its role in neural development and cell-cell adhesion. It is widely expressed in neurons, glial cells, skeletal muscle, and immune cells, including natural killer (NK) cells. NCAM1 plays a crucial role in neuron-neuron adhesion, neurite outgrowth, synaptic plasticity, and learning and memory. It interacts with fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) to influence intracellular signaling pathways. NCAM1 has been implicated in neurological disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, as well as in certain immune-related diseases. Due to its role in neural plasticity and immune function, NCAM1 remains a key target in research on brain repair, psychiatric disorders, and immunotherapy.

Store at 4°C in the dark. Under these conditions, the antibodies should have a shelf life of at least twelve months, provided they remain sterile. For longer term storage, aliquot and freeze to avoid freeze-thaw of the antibody.

Notes

Eggs from hens hyperimmunized with target were used to prepare an IgY fraction which was then subjected to antigen-specific affinity purification.
