Background
Cytokeratin can label keratinized epithelium, stratified squamous epithelium, stratified epithelium, proliferative keratinized cells and monolayer epithelium. It can be used in the study of various cancers. It is positive in various adenocarcinoma, small cell carcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma, malignant mesothelioma, germ cell tumors other than seminoma, leiomyosarcoma and some synovial sarcomas. CEA and EMA can be combined for the differential diagnosis of epithelial tumors and non epithelial tumors.
