Recombinant Mouse IL-28A - 5 μg

Interleukin-28A (IL-28A), also known as interferon lambda 2 (IFN-λ2), is a type III interferon family cytokine with potent antiviral and immunomodulatory activities. IL-28A signals through a heterodimeric class II cytokine receptor complex shared with IL-28B and IL-29 and activates JAK-STAT pathways to drive antiviral gene expression. . Biological role. IL-28A is produced in response to viral infection and induces phosphorylation of STAT1, STAT2, and STAT3, leading to upregulation of interferon-stimulated genes and establishment of an antiviral state in target cells. Its activity is particularly prominent at epithelial and barrier surfaces, including the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts and liver, where it helps control viral replication while limiting systemic immune activation.. . Receptor and signaling. IL-28A exerts its effects via a heterodimeric receptor composed of IL-28R1 (IFNLR1) and IL-10R2, a shared subunit used by other IL-10 family cytokines. Engagement of this receptor complex activates associated JAK kinases and downstream STAT signaling cascades, overlapping functionally with type I interferons but with a more restricted cell-type specificity.. . Antiviral and antitumor properties. IL-28A exhibits broad antiviral activity in vitro and in vivo, inhibiting replication of several RNA and DNA viruses and promoting expression of antiviral effector molecules. In addition to antiviral effects, IL-28A shows antiproliferative and antitumor activity in preclinical models, positioning it as a candidate biologic for oncology and chronic viral infection research applications.. . Immunomodulation and disease relevance. IL-28A modulates dendritic cell function and promotes Th1-biased immune responses, while dampening Th2-driven inflammation in some settings. Through these mechanisms, IL-28A has been explored as a potential therapeutic approach in Th1-mediated inflammatory conditions, including T cell–mediated hepatitis and barrier-tissue inflammatory diseases
