Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) is a soluble, cytosolic enzyme involved in the TCA metabolic cycle. Mutations in this enzyme have frequently been identified in astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, and oligoastrocytomas as well as in secondary glioblastomas. IDH1 mutations are found much less frequently in primary glioblastomas. The IDH1 mutations are highly specific to a single codon in the conserved and functionally important Arg132 in IDH1.
