Recombinant Hirudo medicinalis Hirudin-1/Lepirudin (C-His)
Source : Pichia pastoris; Hirudin is a secreted protein that belongs to the protease inhibitor I14 (hirudin) family. Hirudin is a potent thrombin-specific protease inhibitor. It forms a stable non-covalent complex with alpha-thrombin, thereby abolishing its ability to cleave fibrinogen. In nature, Hirudin is found in the salivary glands of Hirudo medicinalis that has a blood anticoagulant property. Hirudin can be used to treat heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
