The complex facilitates the processive movement of microspheres along a microtubule in a depolymerization-coupled manner. SKA1 is necessary for timely anaphase onset during mitosis, when chromosomes undergo bipolar attachment on spindle microtubules leading to silencing of the spindle checkpoint.
