BRCA1 associated protein-1 (ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase) Adenovirus (Ad-BRCA-AP1)
The breast cancer susceptibility gene, BRCA1, which maps to chromosome 17q is expressed in numerous tissues, including breast and ovary. A second breast cancer susceptibility gene, BRCA2, located on chromosome 13q12-13, also confers a high incidence of breast and ovarian cancer. Mutations within the BRCA1 gene may account for at least 80% of families with increased incidence of both early-onset breast cancer and ovarian cancer. BRCA-AP1, also known as BAP1 (BRCA1 associated protein 1), localizes to the nucleus and interacts with the RING finger domain of the breast cancer 1, early onset protein (BRCA1) . This gene is thought to be a tumor suppressor gene that functions in the BRCA1 growth control pathway.
