The CDKN1A protein critically controls cell cycle progression and mediates DNA damage-induced G2 arrest through p53/TP53-dependent and CREB3L1-mediated p53-independent pathways. It inhibits cyclin-dependent kinase activity, blocking cell cycle progression by preventing phosphorylation of key substrates.
