Background
Ecm29 binds specifically to 26 S proteasomes. Ecm29 has been reported to stabilize proteasomes, to remodel proteasomes upon stress, to be involved in membrane-associated localization of proteasomes, and, more recently, to be involved in quality control or assembly of the proteasome. Ecm29 acts as a proteasome inhibitor.
