Background
Nexilin, Also known as NEXN, NELIN, is a filamentous actin-binding protein that localizes to focal contacts and may be involved in cell adhesion and migration (PMID: 15823560) . Nexilin is abundantly expressed in heart and skeletal muscle and has an essential role in the maintenance of Z line and sarcomere integrity (PMID: 12053183, 19881492) . Mutations in Nexilin have been associated with cardiomyopathy dilated type 1CC (CMD1CC) and cardiomyopathy familial hypertrophic type 20 (CMH20) (PMID: 19881492, 20970104) .
