DNA polymerase alpha catalytic subunit is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the POLA1 gene. This gene encodes the catalytic subunit of DNA polymerase, which together with a regulatory and two primase subunits, forms the DNA polymerase alpha complex. The catalytic subunit plays an essential role in the initiation of DNA replication.

Triggers increased phosphorylation of STAT1 and up-regulates expression of VCAM1 and ICAM1 (PubMed:23892569) . Promotes leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells (PubMed:23892569) . Regulates migration of monocytes from the splenic reservoir to sites of inflammation (By similarity) .
