24,25-Epoxycholesterol is an oxysterol agonist of the liver X receptor that can inhibit the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA reductase) in liver cells. 24,25-Epoxycholesterol regulates cholesterol metabolism in the liver[1].
