VCP proteins are indispensable for Golgi stack dynamics, coordinating fragmentation during mitosis and postmitotic reorganization. It actively promotes the formation of the transitional endoplasmic reticulum (tER), enables ATP-dependent vesicle budding, and enables membrane transfer to the Golgi apparatus.
