NHS-activated 2-octynoic acid-BSA is an immunogen used to establish a murine model of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). NHS-activated 2-octynoic acid-BSA works in conjunction with Complete Freund's Adjuvant to stimulate the body's immune system, causing the immune system to recognize it as a foreign antigen and trigger an immune response against autologous biliary epithelial cells. This leads to the production of anti-PDC-E2 antibodies, resulting in bile duct damage and inflammation.
