Rabbit anti Human beta-1 lipoproteins

The defined antibody specificity is restricted to beta-1 lipoprotein as tested at the level of sensitivity of immunoprecipitation techniques. The antiserum does not react with any other protein component of Human serum or plasma. In precipitating techniques as immunoelectrophoresis and single and double radial immunodiffusion to identify the presence transferrin in Human serum or other body fluids and to determine its concentration. This antiserum has not been tested in more sensitive assays as nephelometry, ELISA or use in immunohistology, but this does not exclude such use if proper controls are included.

Beta-1 lipoprotein has a molecular weight of 2,700,000. The protein is isolated from normal serum. Freund’s complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.

Precipitation assays. In immunoelectrophoresis use 2 μl serum or equivalent against 120 μl antiserum. In double radial immunodiffusion use a rosette arrangement with 10 μl antiserum in 3 mm diameter centre well and 2 μl serum samples (neat and serially diluted) in 2 mm diameter peripheral wells.
